Our History

In the beginning Prahran Veterinary Hospital was started in 1977 by Dr Carl Muller. The practice was started at 646 Malvern Road after extensive works had been carried out on the building.

For a period Dr Muller ran the hospital with Dr Philip Kidd. Dr Kidd had an interest in greyhounds and half of the hospital was devoted to canine sports medicine and half to pet cats and dogs. Dr Kid moved his practice to Richmond in the mid 1980's.

The practice steadily grew and to a big jump in size when Toorak Veterinary Clinic merged with Prahran Veterinary Hospital. Toorak Veterinary Clinic was located in Ross Street Toorak and run by Dr Andrew Patterson.

Dr Juliff joined the practice in 1990 and became a partner of the hospital in 1993. Dr Hoskin joined the practice in 1999 and became a partner of the hospital in 2004.

Our old hospital at 646 Malvern Road had an interesting history and served many purposes since it was built in the late 1800's. It was a boarding house for men for many years before it was a veterinary hospital. During the second world war is was used being used as seven flats. Unsubstantiated oral history suggests that there were two large willow trees in the front yard and the building was a house of ill repute called "The Willows".

Construction started on our brand new, purpose built hospital at 682 Malvern Road in August 2004. We moved in on 15 August 2005.
